Is there any other car hauler out there that feel the same that Zuckerman has been very ineffective as a negeotiator for our craft and since he has been director all we have heard from him is consessions and the line of “this is the best we could do”. I for one feel that its time for Mr Hoffa to take a stand and and put Fred back behind a steering wheel where he belongs and appoint a strong negeotiator for our craft. Any more give backs and we will be done, if this contract goes through, combined with the last 5 year deal our wages at the end of a 8 year period will have only climbed $1.70 per hour thats $.2125 an hour per year for 8 years. But not for all, Allied has a give back of 17.5% for a 36 month period with a freeze for that period, this is unacceptatable at best. But hey Fred you have been able to get some sweet heart deals for your Local. Fred you need to man up and just step down with some dignaty and let someone else do the job.

Just a little history;
June 1st 2003 5 year contract pay freeze year 1

June 1st 2004 year 2 of contract pay freeze

June 1st 2005 year 3 of contract $.40 pay raise during this contract year Allied has a 2 month 10% pay cut

June 1st 2006 year 4 of contract $.40 pay raise on May 30 Allied employees take a pay freeze plus 15% pay cut for 36 months

June 1st 2007 year 5 of contract $.50 pay raise except for Allied which stays at June 1st 2006 scale less 15%

If this new contract is accepted

June 1st 2008 year 1 of 3 pay freeze Allied still at June 1st 2006 scale less 15%

June 1st 2009 year 2 of 3 pay freeze Allied still at June 1st 2006 scale less 15%

June 1st 2010 year 3 of 3 pay raise $.50 and Allied is to be put to full scale plus first year of COLA raise.

looking at this with the Art 22 New Bussiness 1/2 rate running mile pay and Art 48 being kept out for 5 legs on a trip.

It sure does’nt sound like he is working for us.

There is no more equalization of loads in the Central-Southern. It is completely eliminated. Article 48 is gutted. Locals will be played against one another for work.

When work is slow, drivers can be relocated to any other terminal—with no option to take a layoff instead. If you decline, you are out of work but not laid off.

This change will gut the 20% per day rule because the carriers will be able to use this language to avoid having any laid off employees. [Article 48 (Central Southern); Article 42 (Eastern)]

Cut Rates for “New Business”

In Article 22, all “New Business” would be paid on the running mile, even if the new business is the long leg. And it will be easier for the employer to designate “New Business” because the clause that stated it could not be business previously hauled union during the life of this agreement is eliminated. A carrier could put traffic on the rail for one year, then it becomes “New Business” and running mile.

Economic Concessions

Wages: First two years, wage freeze. Third year, 40¢ per hr (1c¢ running mile, 2¢ loaded mile).

Wage Progression: If you hire at a different carrier, you would not receive full wages. Instead, you start at 85% of scale, 90% after one year, 95% after two years, and three years to reach union scale. (For non-CDL qualified employees, start at 70%, then 75% then 85%.)

COLA: No cost of living increase in 2009.

DETROIT (Reuters) - General Motors Corp (NYSE:GM - News) will need to raise as much as $15 billion in cash to shore up liquidity and bankruptcy is “not impossible” if the U.S. auto market continues to slump, Merrill Lynch said. Other analysts have suggested GM, whose shares fell to a new 54-year low on Wednesday, needs to raise funds to ride out the downturn in the U.S. auto market through 2009.

But Merrill’s estimate of GM’s financing needs is the highest yet. It also carried the most stark warning of the bankruptcy risk for the largest U.S. automaker.

GM declined to comment directly on the Merrill Lynch report but it believes it has sufficient liquidity for 2008 despite lower volumes and could take more steps to cut costs if sales conditions worsen.

“If conditions continue to deteriorate, we would consider other operating measures,” GM spokeswoman Renee Rashid-Merem told Reuters.

This attack on our contract, our solidarity, and on Teamsters who struck when they were called out by the International Union cannot be tolerated. All these Teamsters ask is that Article 5 of the contract be honored by Jack Cooper, Allied, Cassens and Active Transportation.

At the national grievance hearing today, the employers refused to abide by the contract, and deadlocked initial cases, including Kentucky Local 651 vs. Cassens, and Dallas Local 745 vs. Jack Cooper. Those hearings will continue tomorrow, but the initial cases show that a stronger stand will be needed to protect our jobs and seniority rights.
