    ARTICLE 30, SECTION 7 - JOINT HEALTH AND SAFETY COMMITTEE
    Add new Subsection 7(k) to Section 7 as follows:
    (k) The Employer will ensure that drivers hauling used cars will have access to an
    accurate height gauge at the loading facility or be provided with a height stick. The
    Employer will not be responsible for replacement of height sticks which it issues.

    HMMm I think I need a height stick. I sometimes get Back hauls, there is no height stick there.

    think that means that they will provide us with height sticks one time, and they won’t replace them,or there will be a heightstick fairy that comes when you snap your fingers when your picking up cars at auctions,, car rental places, or dealers,,,,, were going to get a stick, instead of a signing bonus….

    Dishonest and Disappointing Carhaul Leadership!

    On Friday evening Local 327 held a Carhaul Contract Update meeting, with about 55 members in attendance. Members from Bowling Green and Birmingham were present as well. Jimmy Neal, Fred Zuckerman and Paul Houck (Buzzzzzy) were there to present the package to Carhaul members.

    Fred stated that there are currently a little over 6,000 carhaul members. NOTE: There were about 11,075 ballots mailed out by the IBT for the referendum that was recently rejected.

    The TA language changes were read by Fred Zuckerman.
    * Several questions were raised concerning Article 10 sec. 3 Modified Work.
    Examples were cited how Employers (Allied) had abused a member in the past, with
    little or no remedy provided by Local 327’s BA Jimmy Neal. Seems at some point
    there was a “Modified Work” agreement, under which the abuse took place, then at a
    later date, it went away? Harm was done, reasonable remedy never occurred.
    * The Union should retain all aspects of collective bargaining on this topic, requiring that
    clear guidelines and uniform application of process and procedures should be in place
    before there is ANY implementation of Modified Work.

    *Article 22, 48 brought out many questions as well. Fred Zuckerman stated very clearly
    that this current proposal was not as good as the one rejected. This statement invoked
    the question how was the last proposal better than this one, to which Fred replied that
    the previous proposal provided more work opportunity.
    Are you kidding me? Is this the truth?

    One member asked Fred about the concessions the members are being slapped with was serious pay cuts, how much do you make? Fred replied……enough. (no details given) One member said we have had too many pay cuts and Fred responded with “I have not had a pay increase in over ten years! Are you kidding me? Is this the truth?
    Lets see……Zuckerman Salary

    Those figures are all on TDU website. Figures do not include allowances, expenses, multiple pensions (at least 3 being accumulated), etc

    That’s a $33,000 raise in just two years. 18% in 2 years. Or since 1997… Ten years ago (1997 vs 2007) Zuckerman salary = $97,737 total known compensation in 2007 was $248.570.00 so it went up 114%. And Fred is whining about not having a pay raise in over ten years! Come on…
    Are you kidding me? Is this the truth?

    When Fred was asked about allowing Rank and File Allied members to be present when the Local level hearing is held on Oct. 6th regarding Allied paying bonuses to management, he said no. When asked why, he said it would be stupid. In Fred’s Sept. 4th letter (Grievance) to Allied, he states Allied had paid significant bonuses to non-bargaining unit employees. That these payments amounted to an egregious breach of the basic commitments made under the Term Sheet.

    However, during this meeting, Fred minimized the matter saying that it was just a small amount of money (300,000.00) paid out to just a few people.

    The members know and believe that it is always a good idea to have the affected members present during any grievance issue being addressed. Why does Fred think it would be stupid?

    This proposal still contains too many givebacks and concessions! Many changes are needed to clarify and simplify the language so that it is in layman’s terms for the members who have to work and live by it! Having Rank and File members involved in the negotiation process would go far in earning members confidence and trust as well as providing much more productive improvements !

Your glad your previous employer went under, you say you will fight Allied if you ever get hired, and you say that we should strike the industry and destroy all the jobs we have that are unionized.     I for one fear that the movement to nonunion carriers is going to continue and unless all of us do something to organize the nonunion carriers and drivers we will all be either employed by a nonunion carrier or scrounging for an organized Teamster job in another industry.

    Carhauler25 now that`s a great post. You are on the money on that one. These people are in denial the union is in drastic decline at the present with no end in sight. With leadership like we presently have and these give up and throw in the towel contract`s we will disapear before long. We must fight or die a slow death.
    We need strong leader`s who are willing to do what it take`s to get better cotract`s not just wallow in mediocrity.
    That`s what has gotten us to the point we are at now. Extinction!!

    What is your grand plan to save union carhaul? Demanding a contract that will put the employers out of business? Again, what good is the greatest contract in the world if no one is working under it.
    I do not advocate any sell out contract. However, look around you. You see the same minority of the employees at your terminal that take excessive time to run trips, always damaging vehicles and blaming someone else, filing for monies that they are not entitled to. Bitching about the company and never willing to offer a solution.
    What solutions have you too offerred? I say we have to demand that the nonunion companies be organized.
    I am not in denial, quite the opposite. I believe this industry has been in a decline for almost 10 - 20 years. Just look at the loss of union jobs.
    I voted for the Allied pay reduction because it sure beat the option of the company going into court and getting more reduction, eliminating the contract, and who knows what would have happended to my benefits. At least I have the opportunity to work smarter and make up the wage loss. Unfortunately there are a number of guys I work with that cannot make up the loss because of the reduction in volumes and layoffs. But they would have been laid off at full rate.
    We are obviously going to disagree. Become a part of the solution or get out of the way.
