Union Asks Carhaul Members For Feedback on Contract

August 19, 2008
Dear Carhaul Teamster:
As you know, Teamster carhaul members voted to reject the proposed 2008-2011 National Master
Automobile Transporters Agreement (NMATA) and all of its supplements.

In an effort to fully understand members’ concerns, the Teamsters National Automobile Transporters
Industry Negotiating Committee (TNATINC) is asking members who voted no to contact their
stewards or local union leaders in the coming days to relay concerns they may have about the
proposed agreement that was rejected. By doing so, the TNATINC will gather this input to gain a
better understanding as it prepares to resume negotiations with the employers.
The national committee is committed to resolving members’ issues so that the next tentative
agreement fully addresses our carhaulers’ concerns.
Throughout the contract negotiations, our number one goal was to preserve and protect our carhaul
members’ job security, and that remains our top priority. With members’ further input, we are
confident we can reach a tentative national agreement and supplements that you will support.
The national committee voted unanimously to support the tentative agreement that was presented
to you, as did leaders from carhaul local unions. We do not believe this was a concessionary contract.
We believe this contract took the necessary steps to protect your jobs and interests during these dire
economic times facing our industry and the country in general. We still believe the contract that’s
in place needs changes so that the employers under the NMATA can better compete with nonunion
carriers and obtain work in the foreign car market.
Now we are prepared to go back to the bargaining table, and we are hopeful we can resolve this
contract without going on strike.
I appreciate your continued support.
Fraternally,
Fred Zuckerman, Co-Chairman,
TNATINC

  2. scratch n dent Says:

maybe zuckerman should step down if he can’t figure out what’s wrong with the proposal. We are supposed to contact our b a ’s our input? with the exception of a few these are the same ba’s that listened to us tell them hell no already, look how that turned out . Be on your gaurd for the next round of bs to ooze your way.

I will repond her because I think we all know that they read this site from time to time.

First we need a 2 year deal leaving the current cotract in tact, this will give the economy and the industry time snap back

Second we need in WRITING a clause that allows Allied at the end of this “36 month DEAL” to snap back to full rate with NO delays on March 30th 2010.

Third we need Art 22 abolished all together, the companies had 5 years as to get new bussiness at running mile rate and did little with it we need not expand on concessions.

Fouth any bussiness concidered new prior to June 1st 2008 and that was paid at running mile must go to full rate as agreed upon on the contract, first sentance of Art 22,” For the life of this agreement”. The life of that agreement is over and so should the new bussiness rate.

Fifth stop and enforce all these companies from Double Breasting. Any company caught brokkering out as few as 1 car while or during as few as 1 Teamster car hauler is laid off EVERY TEAMSTER CAR HAULER who works for that company shall be paid for that car/ load.

Sixth as for the deal with Allied the union watchdogs must do there job and ensure that what was “agreed upon” is enforced. Axis, CT Services and any other brookerage firm is closed and all that freight is rolled into Allied NOT AT NEW BUSSINESS RATE.

Seventh have a elected panel consisting of at least 1 car haul member from every local to sit down and review the current leadership of the car haul division and decide if new leadership is needed and then put it to a vote to the members if needed so we can get the proper leadership in the Car Haul Division.

I for one if a contract was presented like that could and would vote YES

“We do not believe this was a concessionary contract” , HOW IN THE WORLD CAN THEY SIT THERE WITH A STRAIGHT FACE AND MAKE A STATEMENT LIKE THAT….

  5. texasjumper Says:

Zuckerman you need to lay off the drinking and the drugs because if you think there was no concessions in this contract you are drinking to much .the question is was there any thing in the contract that was good for the drivers.wake up zuckerman and get us a good contract or call hoffa and tell him you quit because i am tired of all this bullshit

  6. offweekends Says:

Hey Gonzo put that statment in writing and have our members sign it and send that with petition to have Zuckerman OUSTED!!!!!!!!!!! to the national do you think they will get the message then….

  7. LOAD AND PARK CHARLIE Says:

The contract stunk, and with all of our determination it was squashed. We now need to get more of the potential yes votes to wake up and smell the coffee. The fight isn’t over, it’s just getting started…

  8. TrueTorque Says:

Load and Park Charlie hits the nail on the head.

The battle for a Strong Carhaul Contract is still underway and in fact in the very early stages. We all need to spread the word, get more members updated and involved, reminding them that their (our) future is at stake! The current board of negotiators think they have it right with all the givebacks and concessions they unanimously supported. The latest letter from Fred shows they have still …..forgotten which side of the table they are supposed to be sitting on. Clearly to cozy with employers.

The clear “NO” vote should have told those with an once of cranial gray matter, that the members have learned from the past that giving away the farm won’t make you a better farmer. The past contract concessions have not brought the growth and security, or improvements promised, nor will they ever! Let’s stop the bleeding! Here is the web link for the petition to speak to this concern; http://www.teamsters604.org/petition1.html

Print them out and them signed, faxed and mailed!

I have asked my Business Agent, (who is one of the “unanimous” supporters of the sorry proposals we just voted down), to resubmit the contract proposals I and other members submitted early on in the pre-negotiation stages. I have asked to know how many of the voted down language changes were submitted by rank and file members Vs how many were authored by the employers. Every members should be asking their leadership these questions and insisting on answers. If the answers are ever provided, I suspect the tally to be something like this- rank and file “0″ and the employers “66″!

NO MORE GIVEBACKS! NO MORE GIVEBACKS! NO MORE GIVEBACKS!

  9. LOAD AND PARK CHARLIE Says:

TRUE TORQUE, Always good to here from someone with a pair. I am doing my share of getting the word out. Everybody needs to get involved and fight for whats important…

  10. carhauler25 Says:

HE IS SUCH A PIECE OF SHIT!!!! ZUCKERMAN!!!THAT CONTRACT WAS ALL ABOUT KEEPING ALLIED SYSTEMS IN BUSINESS FOR THE NEXT TWO YEARS SO THAT BURKLE CAN GET HIS MONEY BACK. AS SOON AS HE DOES BYE,BYE, ALLIED. GOOGLE, HOFFA, BURKLE, AND CLINTON, SOMETHING TELLS ME THEY WILL ALL BE IN THE SAME ARTICLE. DO THE MATH.

  11. LOAD AND PARK CHARLIE Says:

On that thought, we should go for broke on this contract. We all are in trouble union carhaulers. Lets get the best contract we can get. I say fuck the companies, the union and the auto makers. I have purchased my last gm car. I will never buy american again. They don’t respect me, they don’t appreciate me, They want to bankrupt me. Bye Bye.

  12. Leasewayover Says:

You have to go to bed with someone if you want a good contract.

  13. Chainslinger Says:

I say it is time to stand and fight all or nothing. We are bleeding and if we don`t stop it now we are done.
Ford is already trying to run scab`s in on our terminal in texas. Why does`nt Hoffa strike all Ford U.S. facility`s?
Anyway like someome said above I too will no longer buy american. Just bought wife new nissan altima it blow`s the domestic`s away. Proabably buy a titan in future so stick it where the sun don`t shine Ford GM.
Personally don`t care if I ever haul another car.
