Local 120 Overwhelmingly Against Contract

I just saw the posting on the union website “Carhaul Members Voice Strong Support for Tentative Agreement”, and Loius Miller who is our BA and the local Vice President at Local 120 saying, “About 75 carhaulers attended meetings July 8 and 9 at Local 120 in St. Paul, Minnesota.”

“The members had lots of questions and concerns, but I think that after hearing the answers, they were very positive,”

I don’t know what meeting Louis was at but I can tell that things at these meetings were not very positive, in fact it was a total joke the way he is trying to sell this contract using the excuse that times are hard and this is the best we can do. He even tried to sell to us that this is the biggest raise that has been negotiated in a long time, around $2.70 over the three year term…..the catch……you won’t see it in your pocket, it all goes to the health and welfare fund. Let me just say the health and welfare fund doesn’t pay my bills or put gas in my car or food on the table, so if this is a raise then I’m Santa Claus.

The union committe at my terminal is 100% against this contract, they are encouraging everyone to vote no and send the union back to the bargaining table. In no way shape or form were things positive after the meetings as the union wants you to beleive.

If the negotiating committee seems to think this is the best they can get us and they need to apologise for their lack of understanding of our needs then maybe they should all step aside and let someone else negotiate a new contract instead of bending over backward to try and kiss the carriers rear ends.

All the changes that have been proposed completely gut our contract and take away rights that prior brothers and sisters fought hard to get. The negotiating committee wants us to agree to a two tier pay system, they obviously don’t remember 1985 when this was a main factor in the strike back then. They also want to redo Article 22, why??? So the carriers can take our hard earned freight, throw it on rail for a year, and then get it back at cut rate which will reduce our wages. And Article 48???? The way Loius described this to us is that basically the company can now force you to go out and be gone all the time…..AWAY FROM YOUR FAMILY AND LOVED ONES. The description was that we could show up for work on Monday and run a turnable load, and do the same on Tuesday, then say Wednesday you go to Kansas City, well for the 5 tours that they are trying to sell Wednesday would be considered your first tour, so your fifth tour, when you need to be back home, you are either in a hotel waiting for a reset without pay, or you just do whatever the company says…..but he says he’ll fight for us if they abuse it….YEAH RIGHT, I’ve heard that before and taken it up the tail pipe because they don’t want to fight the good fight. There is other language that is disturbing, and yes it WILL ultimately cost us jobs if this goes through.

We here in the Twin Cities of Minnesota can see right through all this junk and the overwhelming majority are against this. We need to send a message and get the committee back to the bargaining table. I don’t know about you but I’m sick and tired of giving back, lately it’s been give, give, give and we get nothing in return, and now they want us to give more. I just can’t do it, for the sake of my family and all my union brothers and sisters I WILL VOTE NO!!!!!!

Great post and great stand on this serious matter! Once again the union is calling it all wrong, so our brothers and sisters can read this crap and think the contract is OK. What bastards! They need to take that lame contract back to the table and get us some solid language.

VERY GOOD POST!!! THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE MEMBERSHIP BEING DISSATISFIED WITH THEIR LEADERSHIP. THATS WHAT MAKES THIS THING WORK. I’M FROM LOCAL 25 AND OUR MEETING WAS NOTHING LIKE THE MEETING DESCRIBED ON THE TEAMSTER WEBSITE. NO MATTER HOW THE BROTHERHOOD TRIES TO SPIN THIS, THE CONTRACT IS TERRIBLE. ALL THEY DO IS NEGOTATE CONSESSIONARY CONTRACT TIME AFTER TIME. UNLESS YOU ARE MOVING FORWARD YOU ARE MOVING BACKWARDS. THE VERY LEAST I WILL ACCEPT IS A STATUS QUO, LEAVE THE CONTRACT ALONE, TWO YEAR PAY FREESE, WITH A SNAP BACK CLAUSE IN WRITING FOR ALLIED. UNFORTUNEATLEY THAT’S THE BEST WE CAN HOPE FOR. LETS SEND A MESSAGE TO WASHINGTON WITH A RESOUNDING NOOO VOTE. DON’T FORGET YOU MUST BE A MEMBER IN GOOD STANDING TO HAVE YOUR VOTE TO COUNT. ******KEEP YOUR DUES CURRENT******

i know that they have sent ballots to some of our guys that  there dues are not paid up, they have a better chance of this thing passing if they can catch guys out of the loop, so if you know of anybody on oji, sick, laidoff, ect, no matter for how long you might call them and let them know how  bad this thing stinks, and we need all the  no votes that we can get, every no vote counts in this deal, allied got there cut by a hundred votes or so if i remember right

Zuckerman and fry was at our hall trying to paint the same doom and gloom.
Telling us how bad things are. The problem is Cassens and Cooper say there
making money. the only ones thats crying is allied and zuckerman. I think
zuckerman has forgot whos paying his bills, zuckerman and fry needs to get
there nose out of allieds ass. and get back to taking care of the teamsters
thats taking care of him. Our barn is voting noooooooooooooo!!!!!

THE LEADERSHIP DID NOT TAKE INTO ACCOUNT THE FACT THAT WE LEARNED TO USE THE INTERNET. THE MEMBERSHIP CAN NOW COMMUNICATE WITH EACH OTHER. WE NOW KNOW THAT OUR DISSATISFACTION WITH THIS P.O.S. CONTRACT IS NATIONWIDE. WE ARE NO LONGER AN ISLAND,OR CALLED A SHIT SHAKER BECAUSE WE DON’T MARCH LOCKSTEP WITH OUR LEADERSHIP. WE MUST KEEP UP THE PRESSURE. THE ECONOMY IS BAD. YES! BUT WITH PTS GOING TITS UP TAKES 900CARRIERS TAKEN OUT OF SERVICE. THAT IS ALOT OF CAPACITY REMOVED FROM THE INDUSTRY. THAT ONLY GIVES THE COMPANIES THAT REMAIN AN OPPERTUNITY THEY HAVEN’T HAD IN A LONG TIME. PRICEING POWER TO RAISE RATES. SUPPLY AND DEMAND!! ALLIED IS NOW THE 900LB GORILLA IN THE ROOM. THEY CAN ONLY BENEFIT FROM THIS. AS WE ALL KNOW THIS WILL NOT LAST FOREVER, ANY ONE THAT HAS BEEN IN THIS INDUSTRY FOR A LONG TIME HAS BEEN THROUGH A SLOW DOWNS BEFORE. WE MUST THINK LONG TERM. MY BROTHERS AND SISTERS STAND STRONG,MAKE THE LEADERSHIP WORK FOR US. THE LEADERSHIP WILL NOT TELL YOU BUT WE HAVE THE POWER NOW!!  VOTE NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

Thanks for the compliments, we just call it as we see it here at Cottage Grove, and this contract is worth nothing except for maybe wiping my A## with.
And Gonzo thanks for the help this past winter, just wish our terminal manager knew how to run the place, he called everyone back off layoff last week and brought everyone back from West Chicago that went out there just to go and lay them off again at the end of the week.
Sorry to hear you guys are getting screwed with under Art 22 with the Axis traffic, that’s just a bunch of crap since if I remember correctly Axis is a spinoff from Allied.  That’s the last thing we need is to open up a BIG CAN of worms by approving this thing.
