100% No @ Local 710 in Chicago
I had the pleasure to be at this meeting and was given the opportunity to speak. They tried to tell us that the reason the contract was gutted was, because the economic state of the auto industry. The number of units cut in production, and the loss of jobs in all of the industries. They also spoke of the companies and there financial state. They said that: “WE the union have controlled the business of the big three, and that are contract is the cause of their financial issues.” There was at least a couple of hundred men there and we were all shocked. Then we got the chance to speak, and some spoke of Article 48 and how it would effect the job we all love. They said any abuse by the employer, and we would have the grievance machine backing us. I found that to be comical, because they can’t handle the ones they have now. Can you imagine the thousands that would be presented to them if this BS contract passed? When it was my turn to speak I said: ” I’m not here to represent the TDU or any other organization. I’m here representing my brothers in this room, and my car-hauling brothers and sisters trough out this country. You are gutting 40 years of language and our brothers of the past sacrificed blood and tears to get us here.” I spoke of the articles of concern and the men cheered! I have not felt that type of passion in all my years as a Teamster. I spoke of Article 40 note 3 and how this article is set up to have us all fired before we retire, to be replaced by two tier drivers. We called for a show of hands and we knew, that our job there was done. A no vote sends them back to the negotiation table. We need to send those words all the way to Washington D.C. NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

I am feeiling you Brother!! Good Job !!! Like you I am by no means a member of the TDU but I am a proud Teamster that like to be kept informed and I DO NOT BELIEVE EVERYTHING THE TEAMSTERS TELL ME. I feel its each and everyone of our responceiblity to do our own research and formed an educated decision as how to vote and not just think that the elected administration of the Union always has there best interest in mind, remember The Teamsters and Central States is also a big bussiness and they under the real Jimmy Hoffa built what it is today. The current administration is sure trying very hard, as evident to the current posting on the union site, to sell us on this terrible contract and rest assurd that they have there own adjenda in mind, Central States and multi level pension for the hire arky

lol You should of spoke up on the issues instead of keeping your mouth shut. Like some of the members of 710 your scared to speak your mind. If there was 100 or a thousand my message represented you and everyone of my brothers, so I understand. The bottom line of my message was to vote no, and I see that it worked. Good luck my brother and I hope you guys get those spots with copper.

Why should we speak up, we have Sweeney face to face all day at the picket line and he answers all are questions. Yes thats right we still have a picket line out of 65 guys we still have 60 guys out their. Some the most tight knit group of guys probably in carhaul. Today we also got word that Cooper is taking the business over on july 21st they ask for our senority list and a call sheet. Back to the contract our B.A knows that we are unhappy with the contract. By the way only two your drivers stop out on picket line talk about brotherhood.

FYI, I’m not a member of your Local and If I knew of the place you guys picket, then I would stop by and help out. The first time I even heard of you guys being on strike was Saturday. I understand that Sweeney is just the messenger and I have no beef with Local 710. I just give my opinions on the contract and what is wrong about it. I will contact the hall and find out were you guys are and raise some money to buy you guys lunch. If you read my post of the past I support what you guys stand for.
