Faced with a very tough economic environment, Teamster carhaul negotiators reached a tentative national agreement today with the National Automobile Transporters Labor Division in Detroit, Michigan that protects members’ job security and maintains their benefits over the contract’s three-year duration.

“The economic conditions facing the auto industry and nation as a whole made negotiations very difficult, but the national committee remained focused on the members’ priorities—maintaining their benefits with no additional costs to members and protecting job security,” said Fred Zuckerman, Teamsters Carhaul Division Director and lead negotiator. “Wages are also protected.”

“It was tough to get a good contract, but we believe we have achieved that,” Zuckerman said. “I would like to thank General President Jim Hoffa, all the national committee members and all our carhaul members who have supported us every step of the way.”

More details about the tentative agreement will be reported once leaders from local unions that represent carhaul members get a chance to review the agreement and consider approving it. That will take place in the near future. Members will have the opportunity to vote on the tentative agreement

The national contract expired May 31, but its provisions remain in effect until the new contract is ratified. The national contract covers 9,000 workers.

Sounds like a pay freeze, benefit reduction, but no out of pocket co-pays. and pension whoas. I am interested in the changes to article 48… And what about the current issues reguarding article 5???

  3. gonzo Says:

Rumors are the changes to the wages will be running miles now paid on all mile at $.67 a mile and art 48 they will be able to run you around to 5 differant locations until they must send you in the direction of your home terminal

  4. Chainsdraging Says:

According to verbal reports, the deal contains a two-year wage freeze and a 40¢ per hour increase the third year. There are modifications to Article 48 regarding equalization of traffic,

The proposed agreement is of three years duration. This could be a problem, because the Allied concession agreement expires in two years, and then (according to the Allied deal) “Upon the expiration of this addendum, the parties will meet to negotiate a transition to the full terms and conditions of the NMATA.” There is no “snap-back” clause to bring Allied up to union scale.
