Teamsters Continue PTS Strike, Respond to Company’s Request to Meet

Zuckerman Says Union Negotiators Are Available Thursday

June 10, 2008

PTS President/CEO Jeffrey Cornish has asked Teamsters Carhaul Division Director Fred Zuckerman to sit down for contract talks, and Zuckerman said the union is willing to meet on Thursday, June 12 in Cleveland.

However, the union will continue the strike against PTS in the meantime. Cornish, in his letter dated today, had also asked that the union end the strike until the meeting takes place, although Cornish stated that ending the strike was not a condition to having the meeting.

“We’re waiting to hear if PTS wants to meet Thursday,” Zuckerman said. “We are holding multiemployer talks on June 11 and 12 in Cleveland. We are willing to listen to what PTS has to say at the bargaining table, but we will continue the strike.”

Meanwhile, PTS has filed a complaint in U.S. Bankruptcy Court, as well as a motion for contempt. PTS has also filed a civil complaint in U.S. District Court. All three actions either seek to put a halt to the strike or to get damages for the strike.

“The company is trying to undercut the union’s bargaining strength,” Zuckerman said. “We will vigorously defend our members’ rights in court.”
