GM exec stands by calling global warming a ‘crock’

Lutz, GM’s outspoken product development chief, has been under fire from Internet bloggers since last month when he was quoted as making the remark to reporters in Texas.

In a posting on his GM blog on Thursday, Lutz said those “spewing virtual vitriol” at him for minimizing the threat of climate change were “missing the big picture.”

Carhaul: Can a Two-Year Contract Help Rebuild Teamster Power?

February 1, 2008: In late January Teamster carhaul officials met to screen contract proposals and formulate demands for the national contract that expires May 30.

Hopefully the good proposals submitted by members and locals will be put on the table, but the fact remains that a large chunk of Teamsters carhaulers are stuck under the 2007 Allied concession deal that lasts another two years. This creates a tough bargaining climate for our union.

GM CFO Fritz Henderson

For all of 2007, GM’s global operations reported a record net loss of $38.7 billion. But much of that came from the way GM calculated certain tax assets. When stripping away one-time charges and write-downs, GM’s worldwide automotive operations were profitable last year. GM earned $553 million in 2007, after losing $339 million in 2006.

Allied Drivers if you were wondering where your 15% paycut has gone look no further. Most of it is in the Democrat Party.

Former President Clinton stands to reap around $20 million — and will sever a politically sensitive partnership tie to Dubai — by ending his high-profile business relationship with the investment firm of billionaire friend Ron Burkle.

Mr. Clinton is negotiating to end his relationship with Mr. Burkle’s Yucaipa Cos. as part of a broader effort to protect the presidential campaign of his wife, Sen. Hillary Clinton, from potential conflicts of interest. Details of Mr. Clinton’s involvement in Yucaipa and his efforts to unwind it come from documents and interviews with people familiar with the matter.
